Resources for Bible Study
There are many good Bible Study resources in our Church Librarylocated in the foyer of Building B. There are many others available on the Internet. Links to some of these are on our website: www.btxcofc.com. Look in “What’s Here For Families” and click on resources. The take home papers from the children’s Bible classes are also a good resource for family Bible study times and is a good review of what the young people are taught in their Bible classes.

This Sunday
All children will remain in the auditorium during our 75th Anniversary service at the high school this coming Sunday, September 28th. Instead of pulling the children out for a Bible Hour program, we will be providing each child with a goody bag containing crayons, coloring book and stickers.

Children’s Program 2008
We will be having our annual children’s program on Sunday evening, Nov. 9th in the auditorium. This will involve our preschoolers up through 5th graders. The K – 5th graders will be practicing on Wednesday evenings during the first 10-15 minutes of class beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17th. Preschoolers will also be learning their songs in their classrooms. The songs will be great for all the children to learn whether or not they choose to be in the program. We would love for all children to participate if they can.

Teachers Needed
Our 3rd & 4th grade Bible classes have been combined on Wednesday evenings. However, because of a large class size due to wonderful attendance by these kids, we need to divide these two classes on Wednesday evenings, so we are in need of teachers for the 3rd grade Bible class. Please see Don Kuhn or Brenda Ford ASAP if you are interested in helping out in this class.

For Bible School Teachers
Please do not skip any lessons this quarter due to the Sunday and Wednesday we don’t have class. We need the extra lesson so we start the new quarter on December 7th.

We will be adding two new full time ministers soon. Because of this we were needing more office space. One classroom across from the office has been divided to make an additional office. Because of this the configuration of a couple of classrooms has been changed. The Sunday morning women's class in C-103 enters from the same door but the classroom is now smaller. The Singles class in room C-105 enter by the door just inside the side entry to Building C and the room has been rotated.

Special thanks to our Singles group and Russell Musselman for repairing and repainting the fellowship area of Building C and the hall outside the church offices. It looks great!

Our Wednesday schedule is about to be varied for the next several weeks. We will have classes as usual for the rest of May. The first Wednesday in June, June 4th, the children's classes up through 3rd grade will meet in their usual rooms. The 4th-teens will combine for a special hour of singing and worship in the Big Bible Hour room. Adults will enjoy an hour of congregational singing in the auditorium. The next Wednesday, June 11th, we will have a Family Fun Night with a meal and devotional. No classes that night. The next Wednesday, June 18th, will be VBS. I hope you are prepared to be involved in the late Spring and Summer activities because we need a lot of help to make these events a success! Please contact one of our Deacons or Ministry leaders to volunteer for helping with our summer programs. You can also contact me.

The Annual Bible Teacher Event was a lot of fun. It was good to see over 100 adults and children enjoying themselves. Jeff and Anthon Plake are great entertainers! Special thanks to Amy Neal, Gary & Linda Smith, and Tracy Harris. Thanks most of all to each one who teaches the Bible!

Our new security plan will go into effect the middle of June. In the preschool classes if will consist of a card system. In the school age classes parents will have a form to fill out letting the teachers know what they prefer for their child to do at when the class concludes each week. I hope that everyone helps us make this new security plan a success so that we keep our children safe.

The first curriculum evaluation meeting set the ground work for a continuing process of evaluation and development. The group will meet again on Sunday, June 1st, at 4 PM in room C-104. Anyone interested is welcome.

Week of April 27-May3, 2008

I will miss Bob Fear. He was at the center of the life of the congregation. He was an example of Christian service and leadership for everyone he met. My prayers are with Pam, Robert, Shawn and the other extended family members.

This Friday, May 2nd, at 6:30PM is the annual Teacher Appreciation event. We are still accepting reservations. We really need to let the caterer know the count by Thursday afternoon. If you would like to attend but cannot afford it please reserve your place anyway. Call the church office or me. I have some money to help pay for those who could use some assistance with the cost.

Next Sunday, May 4th, at 4PM in room C-104 there will be a meeting to begin to discuss curriculum. If you have experience with curriculum development and writing, I would like for you to be there or call and let me know about your experiences. Anyone with an interest in this is welcome. If you need childcare during the meeting please call the church office or me by Wednesday afternoon.

We are still looking at options for security. The current experiment is revealing some issues to resolve. I hope to have a plan in place by the middle of May.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to teach this summer! I appreciate you help!

Security Plans, Curriculum Evaluation

Beginning this week we are testing a new security plan in a couple of our pre-school Bible classes. Once we try this out, a plan will be implemented in all our children's Bible classes. You will receive information about this in May.

Beginning next month we will be evaluating all our children's Bible school curriculum. If you are interested in helping let me know. I am especially interested in those of you who have experience writing curriculum.

We are trying to inventory our Church Library. We really need all the materials checked out in 2007 returned. In the future, please keep checked out materials no more than 2 weeks so others can enjoy them as well. thanks!

I hope to see everyone at the annual Teacher Appreciation Event on Friday, May 2nd, at 6:30 P.M. in Building C. It will really help if all the reservations are in by this Sunday, April 27th.

Adult Teachers Meeting recap

The Adult Bible school teachers met yesterday to discuss future plans. John Rodriguez will continue to coordinate this area of the Bible school. Each teacher was asked to update their personal information sheet. Upcoming events were discussed: May 2nd Appreciation event and July 18th & 19th Workshop in Austin. There was a discussion of having local teacher training. Those present were in favor of this. A short Bible study based on 2 Timothy 2:4-6 was presented as an encouragement to those who teach the Bible to Adults. If you missed the meeting contact John Rodriguez for more information and to fill out the information sheet.

April Meeting Review

The April 2008 meetings had the following topics:

1. Bible School Survey - Every Bible School teacher and helper is asked to fill out a survey. It is available on the church website: www.btxcofc.com. Click on the link on the home page or family page.

2. There are two events coming up I encourage everyone to attend. (1) May 2nd at 6:30 PM at Building C will be the annual Bible Teacher Appreciation Event. This year Jeff Plake will be our entertainer and we will have a catered picnic meal. This is for the whole family. Reservation forms are in the foyer or online at the church website: www.btxcofc.com. Click on the link to print one out. (2) The other event is the annual Central Texas Bible Teacher's Workshop in Austin, TX, July 18-19, 2008. We will have more details later, but go ahead and mark your calendar and reserve these dates.

3. There are several resources for Bible school teachers. Some of the best are listed on special web page. To access this list, go to our Family page on the website and click on "resources". For a couple of them you will need login information. Contact me for this information.

4. We discussed security. Right now we will continue to use the beepers for security in the Nursery. I am working on a plan for the Preschool and a different plan for the primary grades. In the meantime please continue to identify which child goes with which adult by the use of a sign up sheet or some other means.

5. We discussed curriculum. We will be evaluating all our curriculum and plan to have a unified curriculum so we all know what we are teaching in each area of the Bible school. Anyone with curriculum to recommend is welcome to share that with me. The goal is to have everything evaluated and any changes in place by the Fall of 2008.

6. We discussed facility use especially as it relates to Building A. If there are issues please let me know. In Building A, Bible school teachers are to have access to some closet space and one wall.

7. A new Bible School Workers handbook has been printed. Each teacher needs to have a copy. If you do not have one, please contact the church office.

8. Each Bible school worker is asked to fill out a new information sheet. These are available in the church office. If you have questions about any of the questions please contact me.

9. We discussed how to clarify that we only promote in the pre-school once a year. Tammy Cole is working on our signage to help parents and others realize that children in certain date range belong in a certain class. We need to avoid having parents moving their children to a different class on their birthday as it makes a problem when it is time for them to start school.

10. Due to a scheduling issue we were having on Wednesday evening, the bells will now ring at 7:55PM and 8 PM. Please note that parents can still pick up children early but as they get used to the new times, we hope to keep the children for the whole hour each Wednesday evening.
